Alina Gofman is a Chicago based, first generation immigrant, fashion and portrait photographer from Ukraine. She started with college basement party photos to pay for an English degree, but by fortune of thoughtful mentors learned to study the craft. She started speeding through books, attending workshops, assisting wherever she could. Alina fell in love with the journey of photographers, from sports to street, and the incredible worlds they dreamed. Fashion photography called to her and provided incredible opportunities to travel and learn, from LA to Rome, even assisting instructors at photography conventions around the country, and it still takes over her life daily. She got involved with the Chicago fashion scene while still in college, from walking in local runway to years later switching to shooting with some of the top agencies and artists in the city. Alina has a drive for the authentic- for questioning what it means to be seen, what draws our attention and lasts in our memory.

As a photographer, Alina searches to capture a moment. In monochrome whispers, playing with textures, and cinematic lighting, she weaves a mystery. A hushed breath, a stolen secret. She finds fashion photography to be as much a heart infused expression of beautifully flawed humanity as the Mona Lisa or Grecian statues and knows she'll be chasing it for the rest of her life. She studies classic and modern fashion photographers, the details that stay with us through time, written about broken heroes. The storytelling of fashion photography with the genuine nature or portrait give an authentic grasp to a time passed. Alina's world is intense, shadowy, and unafraid of to ask what makes you look. She looks for the light in a dark place, hope in a grim moment, and that search expresses itself in her work.
